MSNBC Airs the Black Agenda Hosted by Ed Schultz…What’s Wrong with this sentence?

This morning I heard a promo for the Black Agenda hosted by Ed Schultz. Two things stood out to me: 1. What is the black agenda 2. Are there any black anchors at MSNBC? I know the answer to the second question, but not the first one. To create a black agenda would mean there is a group think within the community and that is simply not the case. In the 50s and 60s black people fought for civil rights. That was something tangible that was pervasive across the scope of the entire race, but that is not the case now. Blacks do have the highest rate of unemployment. It is 15% but no black agenda is going to solve that problem. It will be interesting to see the agenda, their findings and answers, but will there be more questions than answers.

Anti Abortion Poster Depicting the President…does this go too far?

“Every 21 minutes, our next possible leader is aborted” is the theme of a controversial anti-abortion billboard campaign that went up in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, recently. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when the poster also features an image of President Obama, critics say that’s just wrong and disrespectful. The billboards are the work of a Texas-based pro-life group called Life Always,  an organization whose critics also say targets Blacks and Black neighborhoods for its anti-abortion campaigns.  It is the same group that placed a billboard ad in New York featuring the face of a young African-American girl that read, “The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb.” That billboard was taken down because the employees working in the building it was posted on were being harassed.” * So what do you think? Is this disrespectful to the president or does this simply cause the kind of buzz LifeAlways seeks?

Phylicia Barnes Still Missing

Phylicia Barnes is still missing. She was last seen in Baltimore December 28, 2010. No one has seen her since. If you see her or know anything about the case contact the Baltimore Police department at 855 223-0033. At this point this is still an active case, but police say they need help from the community to find out what happened to this child.

I Don’t Like Sarah Palin, but don’t call her a C-word

If you read my blog it is no secret that I  am not a fan of Sarah Palin, but I am also no fan of disrespecting women. Bill Maher seemingly thinks its alright to hit way below the belt when he talks about Sarah Palin. While appearing in Dallas over the weekend he called Palin a c-word, and that is not funny and it is not alright. To call a woman that word is and should be offensive to all women. No I am not going right wing here I am stating what is simply wrong. I disagree with almost every utterance that comes out of Palin’s mouth, but all women need to say this kind of verbal assualt is not funny, it is simply wrong.

Chris Brown performs on DWTS without incident

I watched Chris Brown perform last night on Dancing with the Stars. He is a gifted performer with the capacity to bring audiences to their feet. There was no interview so there was no incident. Brown should simply perform. At this point since he can not seem to show enough contrition to satisfy everyone he needs to do what he does best. Brown has been punished for his violent assault on Rihanna and some people will never be able to forgive him or forget it, but those are not the people that are his real target market. Brown has not lost his core audience. In fact his some of hard core fans blamed the victim not Brown. Right now his current album has 3 number 1 hits. When I see Chris Brown I can not help, but think about his abusive past, but I don’t own a Chris Brown CD, and probably never will. The fact is I was never a part of his core audience. His core audience is young and they see a good looking entertainer with a winning smile and killer dance moves and that is the group that he has always appealed to and in their eyes he can do no wrong.

Hugo Chavez and Michelle Obama: “Let’s Move”

This was the headline on the Fox newsletter I received, but there was no mention of the First lady in the article. President Hugo Chavez was encouraging his citizens to eat healthy foods, but Fox took the opportunity to take a picture of the First lady and put it next to Chavez to visually connect the first lady with a socialist dictator. The link to the story shows that this is another attempt to make the Obamas appear as if their programs are some how un-American. http://nation.foxnews.com/culture/2011/03/28/hugo-chavez-and-michelle-obama-lets-move?cmpid=NL_FiredUpFoxNation_20110328?cmpid=cmty_email_Gigya_Hugo_Chavez_and_Michelle_Obama:_’Let’s_Move!’

Herman Cain Says No Muslims will be in his Cabinet

Herman Cain is a black conservative making his case for president. A frequent critic of President Obama, Cain has said just because the first black president was bad don’t be afraid to elect him. Over the weekend while addressing conservatives in Iowa, Cain said if elected he would not have any Muslims in his cabinet. This drew loud applause.  Cain said “I will not. And here’s why. There is this creeping attempt, this attempt, to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government,”. He went on to say . “It does not belong in our government. This is what happened to Europe. And little by little, to try to be politically correct, they made this little change. They made this little change. And now they’ve got a social problem that they don’t know what to do with hardly.” Is Cain just racist or does he have a point? Tell me what you think.

Target Prices Seem to be Off Target Too Often

Last week I was shopping at my local Target and I purchased 2 bottles of CranRaspberry Juice for the sale price of $2.28 when I got to the cashier she charged me $2.54 regular price I told her the product was on sale, but she said I would have to go to customer service for them to adjust the price because it was in the system at the regular price. I let her check me out and I  went back to the juice aisle and a managment team member was there, and I pointed out the error and showed her my receipt. She called customer service and alerted them that I was coming to the front so adjust the price.  They made the adjustment and some might say you went through all that trouble for that? Yes I did because it is my money. Now I might have just written it off, but last night I was back in the store buying detergent. I had a coupon that required me to purchase two bottles of Tide to get $1 off the purchase price. The Tide Sport was on sale for $9.99 so I  got 2 bottles. When the cashier rang it up it was $10.99 I tell her it is on sale for $9.99 she re-scanedit and she told me again it is $10.99. I went back to the aisle and brought the sign back which clearly stated $9.99 at that point the cashier conceded and charged me the 9.99. Two weeks in a row I  have had to fight for the advertised sale price. I have had to invest more of my time going back to the aisles or to the customer service line all to make a purchase. It makes me wonder are these innocent mistakes made by the merchant or are they counting on the consumer to say oh it’s just a few pennies and not worth making a big deal about? those pennies add up to more profit for the retailer. I went on their website this morning to tell Target my story but there is no place to state a complaint. I wonder why. Do you monitor your prices during check out?

Note to Abercrombie, No 7-Year old Needs a Padded bra

Abercrombie is known for selling sex but now they are marketing a bikini featuring a padded bra to 7 year olds. A 7 year old is still a baby not a smoldering sexpot in need of a garment to enhance her breastline. Too often merchants are oversexualizing clothing for little girls, but the padded bra might be the moment that parents just say no. Under pressure Abercrombie has changed the description from padded to lightly lined, but the point is this is not a marketing strategy that the company needs to pursue.  Have they crossed the line? Tell me what you think.

Pastors Tells Congregation F You… but it is not what you think

Churches are trying to stay current and relevant, but sometimes in their quest for relevance they go off the rails. Pastor R. A. Vernon of the Word Church in Cleveland, Ohio was instructing his congregation on Forgiveness and how it is necessary to forgive if you want God to hear and answer your prayers. As an illustrative point he told the congregation to say to their neighbor F-You, but as we all know including Vernon this is not what people think when they hear someone say F-You. My question is did the pastor go too far? Was he off the rails or on point? Tell me what you think.
