Why did Tom Joyner Have Steve Harvey’s Ex, Mary Shackleford Harvey on His show?

A couple of weeks ago Mary Shackleford Harvey posted a number of youtube clips detailing the mistreatment (her perspective) that she endured while married to Steve Harvey and also during their divorce. Harvey has blasted her on his radio show and today she talked to Tom Joyner. Joyner said he is trying to broker a peaceful ending to this media spectacle, but was it a good idea for Joyner, syndicated radio host to have the his radio rival’s ex-wife appear on his show? Mayoral Candidate Carol Moseley Braun Calls Opponent a Crack Addict

This heated exchange took place at a mayoral debate in Chicago between Carol Mosely Braun and opponent Pat VanPelt-Watkins. At this point all the candidates with the exception of Rahm Emanuel are battling for second place. If Emanuel does not receive 50% of the vote there will be a runoff between him and the 2nd place candidate for the job. When Braun was questioned by Watkins about her absence from Chicago politics for the past 20 years she brought up Watkins past drug use. This was clearly a personal attack. Did Braun go too far? Real Housewives of Atlanta Peter Thomas Blasts the Housewives

One of my guilty pleasures is The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Last night was the season finale. New housewife Cynthia Bailey married Peter Thomas. Thomas recently sounded off about the housewives and it was not pretty. Thomas said “I can’t stand Phaedra’s ass. I think Kim is crazy as f*ck. Nene has a big-ass mouth. And Sheree’s not cute! She thinks she’s cute, but she’s not cute. And this is on the record. The only one I like is Kandi, and she’s too soft. That’s why she got played with Kim. And that’s how I truly feel.” Tell us what you really think Peter. My question is is this an appropriate way for a man to talk about women? Tell me what you think.

Bishop Eddie Long Receives Warm Reception at Trumpet Breakfast

Bishop Eddie Long recently attended the Trumpet Awards breakfast. He received a warm reception from the crowd. His current troubles were called “going through adversity.” At this point 4 lawsuits have been filed against Long and the matter will go to mediation next month. No one disputes that Long has done some great things for the community, but we can not turn a blind eye to the allegations.

Florida mom, Julie Schenecker, kills teens for being mouthy…really?

Florida mom Julie Schenecker killed her two teenage children. She said she did it because they were “mouthy.” She killed her 13 year old son on the way to soccer practice and she returned home and killed her daughter as she sat at her computer. It is always hard to reconcile a mother killing her own children. As children grow up they do become their own person. They have their own opinions and they are not afraid to share them with you. Back in the day we swallowed hard when our parents talked to us. We might grumble to our siblings, but never to our parents. Many of us have tried to foster real communication with our children without relinquishing our authority as parents. My husband jokingly said to me last week that I was “clashing” with my daughter. I said we could never clash because to clash you needed two equals, and she is not my equal she is my child. I don’t know what happened in that home in Florida, but there is a way of dealing with mouthy children and murder is not the way.

What does Terry McMillan have against Willow and Jaden Smith?

Earlier this week I read that Will Smith and Jay Z were developing the musical Annie for Smith’s daughter Willow. Willow has achieved fame in the music world with her hit “I Whip My Hair”. When I read it I felt proud that two black men had the power and the finances necessary to broker such a project.  I also felt it was great that Smith could help pave the way for his heirs. He could provide that push up that his parents were not in the position to give him. This is a proud black family and they should be celebrated. So I was surprised when I read the tweet that Terry McMillan released. “She tweeted that Willow and brother Jaden, 12, “are being pimped and exploited” by parents Will and Jada Smith. She went on to say “The Smith children already act like child stars. There’s an arrogance in their demeanor and behavior,” she wrote. “I find it incredibly sad. It feels like the Smith children are being pimped and exploited. Or, they’re already hungry for fame. What about 4th grade?” My question first is why would she write this? The next question is why would a grown woman release this kind of tirade against the children? It sounds like a case of sour grapes or crabs in the barrel, take your choice. McMillan has since apologized for the tweet, but the damage is done. I say it all the time…140 characters can kill you. Tweeting is a quick means of communication and it can get you in trouble very quickly.

Tracy Morgan’s Sarah Palin Joke Was Simply Not Funny

Why would the TNT Basketball broadcast team ask Tracy Morgan to comment on Sarah Palin? Morgan is crazy on a good day. What did they really expect?  Morgan was at the New York Knicks/Miami Heat game last night.  What they got was a crude joke that was an not only an insult to Palin but to women. The fact that Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley laughed only fueled the situation. It was poor judgment exercised by TNT to ask Morgan to comment unscripted and the hosts looked equally crude by laughing.

Ugandan Gay Rights Activist David Kato Slain

Gay rights activist David Kato was beaten to death. He lived in Uganda which is a conservative Christian country. Kato had been listed as one of the “Top Gays” in the country in a local newspaper. After his name appeared on the list he received numerous death threats. the police say they are not ready to say his death was the result of his gay rights activities. “However, Val Kalende, head of the gay rights organization Freedom and Roam Uganda , argued that the people who whipped up anti-gay fervor in the country must take some of the blame for this senseless crime. “David’s death is a result of the hatred planted in Uganda by U.S evangelicals in 2009,” she said in a statement. “The Ugandan Government and the so-called U.S evangelicals must take responsibility for David’s blood.”* Words do matter, and words can kill.  http://www.aolnews.com/2011/01/27/ugandan-gay-rights-activist-david-kato-slain-after-being-named-o/?a_dgi=aolshare_email

Family Shield Put on US Weekly Featuring Elton John

“A Harps supermarket in Mountain View, Ark., censored an US Weekly cover featuring Elton John, husband David Furnish and their new baby, Zachary. Deemed inappropriate for “young Harps shoppers,” the store placed a “family shield” in front of the magazine. A Twitter user  saw the censored cover and began tweeting a photo to celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Anderson Cooper and  Neil Patrick Harris,  asking them to “bring attention” to the store’s decision.”  Was this a business decision or homophobia? Harp’s has since removed the shield. Tell me what you think.
