Charlie Crist’s Motto: when the going gets tough change parties

Charlie Crist made these statments a month ago. He said he was running as a Republican and he would not run as an Independent. Times have changed and he has lost his support to a Tea Party darling. So now he will step aside? No, he is scheduled to announce today that he is running as an Independent, but what about what he said? Was he lying, no he was just being a politician. The winds changed and so did he. Now it will be up to the people of Florida to see if he will represent them in the Senate.

Crist has the prerogative to change his mind if he encounters information that supports doing so. Ignoring good intel that says you cannot succeed with a present course of action is a sign of wisdom in my mind. Crist differs from people like Specter and Lieberman in that he did not change parties to get RE-ELECTED. He is changing parties to seek a DIFFERENT office. Sadly this nation is becoming so partisan that there is no room in the middle for good politicians anymore. You may recall that Crist took some heat for meeting with Obama and shaking his hand when the president came to the state. He also took stimulus money because he felt it would benefit his state and the citizens. That caused some of the “party faithful” to label him a “RINO”. ( I hate that term. There aren’t any DINOs running around, but let one Republican say one positive thing about a Democrat and the “party faithful” want a noose around their necks.) I hope Crist gets the job. Obama needs help making wise decisions. That help will come from Moderates and Republicans who can help wean him away from government spending on social programs that feel good, but ultimately do more harm than even the status quo.
