Should Black children be Adopted by White People?

 

 

I saw the People magazine picture of Sandra Bullock with a beautiful black baby who she has adopted. In all likelihood this child will be well taken care of, but is this an ideal situation for a black child? Will this child grow up with a real sense of racial pride? Does a white mother have the ability to raise a strong black man? What is the better alternative to be adopted by a white mother or not adopted at all? The answer is to be adopted by a loving family. When I listen to critics of this kind of adoption I wonder what would they be willing to do to help a child? Most are not willing to make this kind of commitment and Bullock was so while it might not be an ideal situation it is far better situation than the child would have had if Bullock had never met him.

BET Founder Sheila Johnson is Now Ashamed of the Network

It is so ironic that now that Sheila Johnson is on the outside looking in she is ashamed of the network. She and her husband owned BET until 2000. So they were responsible for the content and they were the ones that allowed all the scantily clad women do their bootie shaking dances while the rappers called them bitches and hoes.  For years people complained about what was going on at BET to no avail.  Johnson said “Don’t even get me started, I don’t watch it. I suggest to my kids [a twentysomething daughter and a college-age son] that they don’t watch it… I’m ashamed of it, if you want to know the truth.”* BET was a source of shame before they sold it but they got paid well to turn over the network to Viacom and it is sad that she can now see the flaws, but when she was in the position to affect change she chose to look the other way while the booties were shaking.

Charlie Crist’s Motto: when the going gets tough change parties

Charlie Crist made these statments a month ago. He said he was running as a Republican and he would not run as an Independent. Times have changed and he has lost his support to a Tea Party darling. So now he will step aside? No, he is scheduled to announce today that he is running as an Independent, but what about what he said? Was he lying, no he was just being a politician. The winds changed and so did he. Now it will be up to the people of Florida to see if he will represent them in the Senate.

Rep. Duncan Hunter Advocates Sending the Illegals back and their American Born Children Too

This is a clip from a Tea Party Rally held this past weekend. California Congressman Duncan Hunter has an answer for what we should do with the children of illegal immigrants who were born in America. He says send them all back. ”The congressman, whose district includes parts of Poway and Ramona in North County,  said that it makes sense that if the parents of illegal immigrant children are deported, that their children go with them. Hunter said he also supports a bill, House Resolution 1868, that would eliminate automatic citizenship for those children. Currently, the Constitution grants citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil.” Tell me what you think? Is he a racist or a realist?

Washington Post Article on President Obama features photo of Malcolm X…How could this happen?

This picture of Malcolm X appeared in the Washington Post. Malcolm X was assasinated in 1965. Some Americans called him a radical, but he is revered by some segments of society and reviled by others, but why is his picture over an article about President Obama? How do you pull a picture of a man who has been dead for over 40 years and put it over an article about the current president?  Honest mistake or part of a broader agenda? Tell me what you think.

Gordon Brown the latest Victim of an Open Microphone

Today Prime Minister Gordon Brown was caught making a disparaging remark about a voter. He mistakenly drove off with a live microphone still attached to him. Brown called the woman “bigoted”. He was told at his next stop a radio show that his remarks had been overheard by the public. The Prime Minister has since apologized to the woman, but the damage has already been done. It is sad that he is forced to apologize for statements that he thought were private, but someone among his many aides should have made sure that microphone was removed. The public heard something they never should have heard, and he will live or die politically by his own words.

Are Happy Meal Toys Bad for Kids?

“The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, tackling the problem of childhood obesity, voted today to ban restaurants from offering toys with children’s meals unless the food meets specific nutritional standards. The measure is the first in the nation to restrict fast-food restaurants’ marketing strategy of using toys to entice children to buy high-fat, high-sugar and high-calorie meals.”*  Isn’t this great? No, it is not, why take the happy out of the meal. Children have parents and unless something changed parents still have the right to say no. When my children were in the happy meal age group many times I said no. Kids love the toys, and so do parents so don’t take away the prize. Self control still works and government intervention is not necessary to enact it.

Gubernatorial Candidate Tim James Says We Speak English in Alabama…Learn it, is this National Pride or Racial Superiority?

Tim James is running for governor of Alabama. He is the son former Governor Fob James whose own time in office was marred by racially polarizing actions. Like an all white cabinet, sharply cutting the number of minority voting registrants and the re-introduction of the chain gang. So when you watch this clip you can just say an apple does not fall far from the tree. Is he right or is he racist? Tell me what you think.

Was the President rallying his base or “dissing the white guys”?

Today’s  Washington Examiner headline read “Obama disses white guys”. First I find it interesting that they would use urban slang to illustrate their point. This claim was in response to the President’s call to his base which you can view on the clip. Was the president playing the race card or “dissing the white guys”? Tell me what you think.

Is the Bad Economy the Reason for Chicago’s Violence?

Chicago is in the midst of unprecedented violence. Some lawmakers have said the mayor should consider employing the National Guard. This morning on CNN a community activist said the violence could be directly linked to the faltering economy. He theorized that people are engaging in illegal activity because they have no jobs. Specifically he was referencing the illegal drug trade. He also said far too often the killings are said to be linked to gang activity which he contends is not always the case. Is it really possible that the violence and the economy are linked? Some people are between a rock and a hard place and they might have resorted to illegal activities as a means of survival, but I simply don’t believe that this is root of the problem.
