Monique Calls Out Tom Joyner…It’s on Like Popcorn
Tom Joyner has been making some cracks about Monique. He and his staff have been critical of her interviewing style and the fact that she hollers and screams alot during the show. Tonight she said that she has nothing but love for those that are critical of her. She said there are so few of them in television and radio that they really should not be taking swipes at each other. Joyner’s show cracks on everybody and it is all done in fun, but sometimes they go too far and Monique felt they crossed the line. Joyner is a big dog in the industry, and calling out the big dog might have some consequences.

Unfortunately Monique will succeed where Tom Joyner has failed. Monique has realized and demonstrated that you don’t have to be slapstick, ghetto, making fun of someone to be entertaining. Audiences don’t need comedy all the time to be entertaining. It is nice to see Monique interview people and talk about relevant subjects intelligently. Unlike Tom Joyner, the only time you get serious discussion is in a crisis situation. It is good to see and hear something other than the dozens that J Anthony Brown , Sybil and Tom Joyner have made their staple. Keep up the good work Monique and I love your attitude toward your critics. Tom your talk show was a miserable failure and it is evident that you are not the big dog you think you are. Please, Tom don’t criticize the success of someone who was in the same industry as you, who has obviously surpassed you. She moved on and became successful. You can’t take that away from her. Tom you need to concentrate on winning the market share you are losing everyday. How long before your show consist of you only Tom? Keep screaming Monique, you’ve earned it. Tom Joyner may consider himself a big dog but he obviously can’t run with the big dogs. Monique thanks for taking the high ground with Big boy Radio and Tom Joyner.

Thanks Anita, I try to be fair and not insulting when I am making my point. I encourage civil discourse and I try to keep things positive. Thanks for reading and telling your friends about the blog.

I am thankful to Monique for taking the high road. I think it was extremely mature and professional to address it this way if she felt compelled to address it at all. I just want to know why she advertised the question of asking the cast of the show, “The Game” if they were coming back but on the actual show she didn’t. I am like Della Reese in Harlem Nights…”You had my mind all ready to get the answer to my question and all you left us with was….nothing.”
Anyway, I love Monique’s show.

I thought I must have left the room and missed the answer. I used to love The Game and I was anxious to hear the answer too. I agree with you she did take the high road. I was talking to a friend today about it and she said “Monique ain’t no punk”. That says it all.

I’m a big fan of the Monique’s show and it show a lot about her character that she took the high road. But this happen all time when a African American succeeds, it’s not the “white man” that try to bring us down but it’s our own race. That why we as race of people, we never come together.

I didnt hear what Tom Joyner’s comments were, but the first night I watched her show I said to my husband that I could not stand all that screaming and hollering that she does. It was sooooo annoying to me. She has toned it down (as she said she would). I dont think she is a great interviewer and if you check it out she asks the same question to everyone “what would you tell the young artists that want to make it in the business………..” However, I have enjoyed the guests that she has had on AND I do recognize that she is new to this game. Another thing, let’s not dog out Tom Joyner and his crew, they are there to entertain and remember, he has raised and contributed millions of dollars to historically black colleges and universities. He was the trailblazer for many black on-air djs. In my eyes he is an icon and we need to remember that.

I am so glad that Mo addressed her critics with dignity and class..Yes she screams a lot, and to me that is what makes her relatable. I love her genuine hugs, her sugars, babies and her realness…Her questions are not the same, but the question about what to tell the young people is a relevant one. So many of our youth are lost and dont have great examples oaround them so the fact that she holds her guests accountable makes me love her show even more…My favorite part is her Mo’Nique moment at the end of every show, where she takes the stories that have been shared by her guest and turns them into encouragement and motivation for the rest of us…I always go to bed smiling after watching her show…I mean who shouldnt smile after being hugged..for some people that is the only hug they may get! Keep up the great work with your site!
