MSNBC has let Pat Buchanan loose, and he is coming out with white hood in hand. He is spewing racial hatred on all their news shows and the latest victim of his rage is Sonia Sotomayor. He has diminished her qualifications and labeled her an “Affirmative Action Baby”. On Hardball yesterday Chris matthews made a half hearted attempt to put the old man on a leash and the other guest journalist Eugene Robinson took him on but no one took him on like Rachel Maddow. Maddow asked Buchanan why did he think 108 of 110 Supreme Court justices had been white? He replied “White men were 100% of the people that wrote the Constitution, 100% of the people that signed the Declaration of Independence, 100% of the people who died at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, probably close to 100% of the people who died at Normandy. This has been a country built basically by white folks, who were 90% of the nation in 1960 when I was growing up and the other 10% were African-Americans who had been discriminated against. That’s why.” I wonder what black people were doing when the 100% was doing everything? Well at one point they were slaves, at another point they were coping with Jim Crow laws and trying to avoid being lynched and whether Buchanan admits it or not black people served the country heroically during World War II. He has made it his mission to defend the rights of the oppressed white man. The thing about Buchanan is he would have had a problem with any Obama pick. If he had his way the pick would be another white male because in Buchanan’s world the old adage is still the law “white is right.”
