The Today Show hit an all time low this morning. Anne Curry sat there like she was conducting a news interview with a worthy subject. She was interviewing Levi Johnston, the nation’s most famous “baby daddy.” He sat there providing America with more salacious details of his brief time “living with the Palins.” I was discussing this with a friend and she made a very interesting point. Anytime you live with a family you are privy to very personal details of their lives. It is understood that what you hear should not be discussed outside of their four walls, but my friend contends when the Palins started attacking the Johnston they put Levi Johnson in a difficult situation. Initially he came out to defend his family which he had a right to do, but now he is out to sell a story and the Today Show provided him with the platform. Is he really news? The president just returned from Africa that’s news. Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings started today that’s news. Kim Jong II has pancreatic cancer that’s news. Now I am not saying the Today Show did not cover these stories, but to have Johnston interviewed in the first hour of their show is ridiculous. Levi Johnson should be one of the lead stories on Inside Edition, TMZ or Entertainment Tonight, but he has no place on a morning news show unless they have decided to forsake news and simply pursue the sensational.
