It was a surprise to hear Sarah Palin quit today. She made her announcement on a holiday weekend when all the political talking heads are hobnobbing at the Hamptons. Say what you want about her but she is politically savvy. She is getting ready for 2012 and she knows her work in Alaska is finished. In making her announcement she took a swipe at the press. In the Memphis Commercial Appeal today ironically columnist Jonah Goldberg advised the governor to stay home and study. He said she needs to learn to pick her battles. Goldberg said“for starters, every time I see you on TV you’re whining are about unfair press coverage. Much of it is unfair, and some deserves response. But it’s not presidential. It’s not gubernatorial. You are constantly taking the bait, taking up the fights your biggest fans want you to take up.” The key to winning is increasing the fan base and that will not happen if she does not stay home and study.
My initial reaction was that this was a move made solely to get her ready for a 2012 run. However, after watching many talking heads on Palin’s *home* (Fox News), now I’m not so sure. As many on Fox News said (albeit delicately, because she is their golden child), she’s pretty much written her own attack ads for any future political run by quitting on Alaska. One analyst even said, “You can hear the ad already: ‘Sarah Palin quit on Alaska; what makes you think she won’t quit on you?”
I think (a) some new dirt is about to come out regarding her family, or (b) she’s trying to make some big $$, which she can’t do as governor. Either way, I am sick to DEATH of this woman who never met a camera she didn’t love.

I think gigj hit the nail on the head. She’s out to make a lot of money and/or she did some dirt and it’s about to come out. It would be great if she would just fade into the woodwork, but it seems to me that she loves the spotlight. I think a run for president in 2012 is out of the question, but I fear we haven’t heard the last of her.
