Yesterday we were told that two Neo-Nazis were planning to kill Barack Obama. These two no-names had supposedly met on the Internet and they had a shared hatred of black people. They were going to target a black high school and then do a drive by and kill Barack Obama, but everyone seems to think they really could not have pulled this off and they have even concluded they were acting alone. Glad this is all wrapped up with a neat little bow. Not! People intent on killing public figures do not need an army to carry it out. Lone assasins killed John Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy. Both Reagan and Ford survived assasination attempts by lone assasins and they too had the Secret Service protecting them. My hope is that the governmental agencies not simply write this off as the rantings of radical buffoons, but that they do a through investigation.
The death threats against Obama and the re-stirrings of hatred amongst those who believe in “white power” in America are exactly the type of things that the civil rights icon Joe Lewis was talking about recently.
McCain & Palin’s negative,hate inciting “us against the aliens within” campaigns have helped sustain the climate that allows such violent,right wing extremists to flourish. Shame on them.
