“The Muslims are Going to Kill Us” Says McCain Surrogate Bud Day
One of John McCain’s fellow POW’s in Vietnam Bud Day defended the war in Iraq, saying, “The Muslims have said either we kneel or they’re going to kill us.” Day said that John agrees with him. The McCain campaign has not renounced or repudiated these remarks. The terrorist extremists are the enemy, not the Muslims. This is the kind of hatred that the Muslim community has had to endure since 9/11. The far right does not differentiate between the Muslims and terrorist extremists. They act like they are one in the same. That’s why when a right wing blogger complained that the scarf Rachel Ray was wearing looked like the garb of a terrorist extremist in a Dunkin Donuts ad, the ad was immediately pulled. At an Obama rally two Muslim women who were wearing traditional head wraps were not permitted to sit in camera view of the candidate. This was done by local volunteers, but when Obama heard about it he called the women to apologize for the egregious act. So today we hear a high-ranking McCain surrogate make a statement like this and the campaign lets it go unchallenged you say to yourself is this part of the politics of fear? Maybe the plan is to get it out there and let Americans think about it and maybe tomorrow they will renounce it.
