election 2008 from the eyes of an ebony mom

Note to Democrats-You’re Going to Need Us in November

My mother had southern roots, and sometimes she would say something that were profound in their simplicity. She used to say a “cow needs his tail more than one summer.” It simply meant you never know when you will need someone. So don’t think you can do or say anything and expect that person to be there for you. Well this election year I don’t think the Democrats truly understand the significance of this campaign. Things are being said that will truly be hard to forget. Geraldine Ferraro stepped down from the Clinton campaign today after much pressure. She summed up Sen. Obama’s candidacy as simple luck. She negated his accomplishments and relegated his trek to being at the right place at the right time. We will not forget Clinton’s reaction and her subsequent inaction. As this campaign goes on it is apparent that the decision of who is the standard bearer will be decided at the convention. If Hillary comes out as the nominee with less pledged delegates that Obama I think some of the voters that were for Obama will not come out to the polls. We respect the system and we respect the rules, but you can’t re-write the rules when they don’t work to your advantage. I think it would be a mistake to believe that people will just go in lockstep to the polls and cast a vote for Hillary. I will just end it with words from my mother, “a cow needs his tail more than one summer.”
